INTRO- 40 Days in Prayer Together
Words cannot express how grateful I am for your willingness to join our staff, leaders and fellowship in prayer for “such a time as this.” There is no doubt, the Lord is using this fellowship and ministry to stir and reach the hearts of many. Because of that, I feel the Lord has brought us to a crossroad; a time to seek Him for the path forward. It is obvious that the footprint of the ministry continues to grow and expand at EBC. Our children’s ministry continues to welcome new AND familiar little faces each week. Our student ministry is growing spiritually and numerically. Discipleship and missions ministries are growing and deploying more into spiritual maturity and Great Commission involvement. The sanctuary is filling back up after the new seating project and we continue to grow in attendance and baptisms. As a valued member of EBC you have a front row seat to the work of God in this fellowship and community. To God alone be the praise and glory for the souls He has saved and the lives He is changing.
Space, volunteers and resourcing are the constant needs of a healthy, growing, vibrant ministry. It is for this reason I am CALLING our church to PRAY. Many of you know, we have several options before us as a church. Do we seek to acquire land to be able to build and expand? Do we remain on the campus, build and restructure our present property, leveraging every square inch of space to receive and shepherd more souls? Do we plant, launching more fellowships into the area to win more souls for Christ? Do we pursue a combination of the options above? Or…do we wait? I don’t mind telling you, the path forward seems confusing and overwhelming. Whatever the path may be, however the Lord may lead, we must know we have the heart of Christ guiding our decisions and pursuits.
That said, I am asking you to join me in prayer. To labor with me in prayer over the next 40 days. It was just a few weeks ago when in conversation with my wife about our church’s future, Christen said, “Why don’t we call the church to pray? Why not ask them to pray for 40 days for the will of God?” Her suggestion was so simple and yet so profound. I remember saying internally, “Yes! That’s exactly what we need to do!” I had been so bewildered with my own prayer time and pursuit of an answer, I was too preoccupied with the challenges to call us to prayer! Thank God for faithful voices God uses to give us what we need when we need it. This time…via the encouragement of my beautiful wife. So, in this booklet you will find 40 prayer prompts created and compiled by our staff. Our focus will be four-fold. For the first 10 days, we will pray for our HEARTS, seeking repentance and renewal before the Lord to position our hearts for what the Lord may want to say to us. For the second phase of prayer, we will focus for 10 days on our MISSION together as a church, asking God to stir our hearts for the Great Commission and His desire to see souls saved, lives changed and disciples made. For our third phase of prayer, we will spend 10 days seeking the Lord to PREPARE us as a church for what He would want. Seeking the Lord and desiring His will is a major undertaking as God desires to do more than we could ask or think (Ephesians 3:20) for and through those who desire to pursue His will. Finally, we will bring our time in prayer to a conclusion by spending the last 10 days of our prayer journey calling out to the Lord for the specific options before us: to buy, build, plant, or wait? In other words, we’ll seek Him for the VISION of what He wants for EBC.
The prospect of this journey excites my heart! Even if the Lord were to move us to wait, I am happy to pursue that directive, together, with you as a church. I am believing God to speak deeply and stir us for His glory in this time of prayer. So…join me. Let’s covenant together to pursue the Lord with all our hearts. Let’s come boldly before the throne of grace, lean in closely and wait for Him to whisper: this is the way, walk in it (Isaiah 30:21). As Spurgeon said, there is no harvest in the field without the sweat of the brow and there can be no harvest of the Kingdom without the sweat of the soul. Church, I’m calling you to join me in the labor of prayer. He will show us the way if we seek His face.

HEART- Days 1-10
Day 1- April 6
Read: Psalm 139:23-24
The Psalmist calls our attention to this sobering truth: if we regard iniquity in our hearts, the Lord will not hear us (Psalm 66:18). Before we ask the Lord for any word of guidance as a fellowship, it is absolutely necessary we seek the Lord in a spirit of repentance. Ask the Lord to search us and see if there be any wicked way in us that would hinder us from experiencing His presence and receiving His guidance as a fellowship.

Day 2- April 7
Read: Matthew 5:23-24
In a world that tells us to cancel any relationship in our lives that brings about any discomfort, God calls us to be different. As we begin this time of consecration before the Lord, I urge you today to examine your life and relationships. Are there any of those relationships in disarray that need to be reconciled before moving forward in this 40 day prayer journey? I can only imagine there are many of you who have already identified exactly what relationship needs attention. The text challenges you today to “leave your gift there before the altar and go… be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer a gift.” Pray the Lord reveal those relationships to you today. Pray the Lord gives you courage to repair those relationships.

Day 3- April 8
Read: Ephesians 4:31-32
Paul is urging the church to put away six things: bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, slander, and malice. He then urges the church to replace these things with kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness. If we as a church are not careful, we can easily become hardhearted towards not only the world, but more dangerously, one another. We can carry an offense that dictates how we treat those within the church. Pray that the Lord brings to mind any offense you may be carrying that would cause you to act upon the six things we must put away. Now pray and ask for a fresh kindness, tenderheartedness and forgiveness towards others. Ask God to help us forgive others just as he forgives us!

Day 4- April 9
Read: 1 John 2:15-17
This scripture challenges us to examine our hearts and love for the Lord. If we aren’t careful, we can spend more time focused on worldly things that pull our attention away from the Lord and His will for our lives. Ask God to search your heart today and reveal things of this world (the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, the pride of life) that compete with our love and devotion to Him and His calling on our lives.

Day 5- April 10
Read: Hebrews 10:21-22
As you go to the Lord in prayer today be reminded of the blood given on our behalf that makes it possible. Because of the shed blood of Jesus on the cross we have full access to God who has opened the door for us. Come before Him with a true heart. He already knows what’s going on in the deepest parts of you and He has invited you to bring it to Him. Also, go to the Lord with full assurance because Jesus made a way for us to do so. Draw near to the Lord each day, don’t hold back, and when you close your time in prayer remember why you say, “in Jesus name I pray.”

Day 6- April 11
Read: Isaiah 55:8-9 / Psalm 34:18
We are no strangers to grief, anxiety, and brokenness in this fallen world. Sometimes, because of the pain we experience, we allow our emotions to shape our view of God. Take a moment in your prayer time and acknowledge the pain of missing what "could have been." In order to move forward, you need to grieve it and surrender it at the throne of God. Acknowledge that He works in ways that are higher than our own. Remember that what the enemy intends for evil, God can ultimately work for our good. Know that He is near to you in your brokenness and is your Rescuer. Our emotions do not always tell the truth about our circumstances, but He is trustworthy. Take a minute to ask God where your emotions do not align with the right view of Him and then surrender that at His feet.

Day 7- April 12
Read: Luke 11:1
Of all the spiritual disciplines that are beneficial to our walk with Jesus, prayer proves to be absolutely essential. We have access to the peace, joy, power, encouragement, wisdom, and discernment of God through time with him in prayer. And yet, prayer is so easily regarded as a chore, or even neglected altogether. The antidote to prayerlessness is…prayer. Charles Spurgeon once said, “If you cannot pray, pray until you can.” We must ask with the disciples each day, “Lord, teach us to pray.”

Day 8- April 13
Read: Joshua 3:2-5
As the Israelites are about to cross the Jordan River into the promised land, the officers commanded them to put a great distance between themselves and the Ark of the Covenant “in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.” Joshua follows by telling the people to consecrate, or sanctify themselves, “for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” It’s no coincidence that before the Lord would move in power among the people of Israel, He directs their attention to the cleanliness of their hearts. Ask the Lord today to shine light on any areas of your heart that need to be made clean and ask for His help to keep your eyes on Him only, as one who has been set apart.

Day 9- April 14
Read: 2 Chronicles 7:14
To humble ourselves before God requires we acknowledge who we are in relation to Who He is. Acknowledging his authority over our lives, our plans, and our desires. Surrendering to the fact we can do nothing in this life without his help through the Holy Spirit forms the very foundation from which communication with the Father takes place. Aligning our hearts with His establishes our dependency on Him and draws us closer to Him through repentance and obedience. We must first deny ourselves before we can take up our cross and follow him (Luke 9:23). Seek the Lord for a humble heart. Pastor Steven reminds us often, “we only have one life to live, let's make it count”. God doesn't need us for His plans to be successful, however, He desires to use willing vessels to bring glory to Himself. We must humble ourselves before him and say “Here I am Lord, use me.”

Day 10- April 15
Read: Proverbs 4:23
Spiritual warfare is real, and it is challenging in the life of the believer. The Devil hates this community of believers, this church, and the Devil wants nothing more than to prevent a move of God in our church and in our personal lives. As many of these other days of prayer talk about preparing your heart to seek the Lord for these next few weeks, it is also important that we guard our hearts from the traps and snares of the enemy during this time. He is going to attempt to discourage, sow disunity, and distract you from seeking after the Lord and His guidance. Church, be mindful of your time with the Lord. Seek after the Lord wholeheartedly and rest in Him so that we may not become weary in our pursuits. Our prayer today is that righteousness and the peace of God flow from the heart of every believer in this congregation.

MISSION- Days 11-20
Day 11- April 16
Read: Matthew 9:35-38
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) was not a suggestion. It was, as is, a direct order from our Lord. It has always been God’s desire for His church to obey Him in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. The good news is: He longs to bless those who pursue His commands in obedience. So, today, let’s obey one of His commands coinciding with the Great Commission: let’s pray to the Lord of the harvest to raise up and send forth laborers into the harvest from EBC. Truly, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Day 12- April 17
Read: 2 Peter 3:9
Ebenezer Baptist Church convictionally believes that God is not done with us. The day of the Lord is ever approaching and we have a job to do. The Lord has afforded His patience to us so that we may fulfill the work that He has predestined us to accomplish. His heart is that people will hear the gospel and respond in repentance. Pray the Lord break your heart for the lost residing in Henderson County. Pray today the Lord gives you a heart of courage to share the good news of the gospel.

Day 13- April 18
Read: John 15:5
Jesus is speaking directly to his disciples in the time between the last supper and his arrest. He starts by saying “I am the vine” (the last of the seven I Am statements) and “you are the branches”. He then tells us that whoever abides in Him will bear fruit and that apart from Him we can do nothing. Pause and pray, remind your own heart that apart from Jesus you can do nothing. Ask that the Lord help you be on-mission to bear spiritual fruit, spiritual fruit that not only benefits the kingdom but causes unbelievers to realize there truly is something different about those who abide in Christ.

Day 14- April 19
Read: James 1:22 / John 14:15
Both of these verses call our attention to action and obedience to the commands of God. It’s not enough to merely read the Word or listen to weekly sermons. We must put what we have learned into action, shaping our lives around the heart of God and His word. Our obedience to His commands is evidence of our love for Him. Ask the Lord to examine your heart today and show you any areas where you have been content with just knowing the truth instead of walking in it.

Day 15- April 20
Read: Romans 10:13-15
The gospel is the best news ever but people can’t respond to something they have never heard. The text above could serve as Paul’s response to those who might say “that is not my job” or “they will do it” or “that is not my gift.” People need to hear the Gospel and that means someone has to tell them. That “someone” is not limited to pastors, church staff, or missionaries, it’s all of us. The treasure you have been entrusted with was not meant to be stored away or put in your pocket, it’s meant to be shared.
Our mindset as a church must change from thinking someone else will say something. God has put people in your life, in your work place, and in your community for a reason. You may not pronounce everything perfectly or speak eloquently, but, ask the Lord to give you boldness to share the Gospel and then be willing to tell someone about Him.

Day 16- April 21
Read: John 12:44-46
In the week before the cross, Jesus urgently cries out to the people. You can feel the compassion in his voice when he calls them out of darkness and into his light. In your prayer time today, consider how dark your world was before Christ. How has your life changed? Thank him for not leaving you in that darkness. Now, with the same urgency Jesus had, think of one specific person to share that with today. We do not have to remain in darkness when He came as light!

Day 17- April 22
Read: 2 Corinthians 2:16b-17
The ministry of reconciling the world to God is at the heart of every gospel ministry (2 Cor. 5:18). We can truly ask with Paul, “Who is sufficient for such things?” We have a global task and a hard message. To some, we carry the fragrance of life, but to the perishing, we smell of death. But to all we bear the responsibility of the commission we received from God. We must share the gospel message of reconciliation in our county, across our country, and to every continent. Pray for the weight of our commission to sit upon our shoulders that we may speak in, through and for Christ.

Day 18- April 23
Read: Matthew 8:28-32
Even the demonic realm recognizes the authority of Jesus and must respond in obedience to His command. Jesus uses one word of authority to cast the demons out of the man from Gadara, simply saying, “Go.” How much more should believers who profess faith in Jesus Christ be obedient to respond to the same command our Savior gives to us - “Go.” Pray the Lord would stir your heart in obedience toward His command to “Go…and make disciples…” May it not be true of His Church that the demons respond in obedience more so than His very own people.

Day 19- April 24
Read: 1 Corinthians 9:19
If there was anyone on this side of heaven that had a reason to boast about their religious status it would have been the Apostle Paul. He excelled among the Jews, was a zealous Pharisee (Philippians 3:4-8), then in a miraculous face-to-face encounter met the Son of God, was powerfully converted, memorized the scriptures, traveled the known world planting churches and led countless lives to the Lord. However, rather than take personal advantage of the notoriety he had as an apostle, we see Paul giving up those rights to reach more people with the Gospel, meeting those people where they were in order to lead them to Christ. The faithful Apostle never shied from boldly declaring the truth of the Gospel, but at the same time he did not want to place an obstacle in the way of someone coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. May we all strive to serve others in this manner. Pray that God breaks our hearts for the lost and to remove any obstacles that may be hindering our life and ministry.

Day 20- April 25
Read: Isaiah 6:8
Our world and communities around us are lost and without the hope of Jesus. The Lord’s plan and His purpose for us on this earth is for us to share His good news to those around us. Echoing the same truths from day eleven, focusing on the Great Commission, our prayer today is one of submission to the Lord’s plan and will for our lives, making ourselves available to however the Lord would use us and our gifts to serve Him. Our prayer should be: “Lord, raise up and send global missionaries from this church, even if it's me. Lord, send national missionaries from this church, even if it's me. Lord, use this church to reach the community closest to it, and perform a work in and through me so that I might play a role in this, for your honor and glory!

Day 21- April 26
Read: Isaiah 26:3-4,8-9
Today, we ask the Lord to prepare us for what He wants in us as a church. By now, it is the hope that you share the desire of the writer in v.9 from the text above. Ask the Lord to provide strong confidence and peace for the leadership of the church (v.3). We want our hearts “stayed” in Him. In preparation for what the Lord would have for His church at EBC, we need boldness and confidence together in Him. This will come as we earnestly seek Him and trust in Him.

Day 22- April 27
Read: Proverbs 21:31
There is a two-fold reality that we see in the text today. First, we have an obligation to “ready the horse” for the day of battle. Secondly, as prepared as we may be, ultimately the battle belongs to the Lord. We prepare with the expectation that God is going to bless our effort. So today, I urge you to examine your life and role at Ebenezer as you pray these two questions: “Lord, am I helping to prepare this body for the day of battle, to fight the good fight of faith?” and “Lord, am I believing in you for victory?”

Day 23- April 28
Read: 1 Peter 1:13
Peter is reminding us that we’ve been born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. Because of this, we need to prepare our minds for action or gird up the loins of our minds to be completely focused on Jesus and what He would have for us. I’m reminded of the hymn, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” The song calls you to
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace”
Ask the Lord to help you see a call to action, to help prepare our minds for the action He shows us, and set your eyes on Jesus.

Day 24- April 29
Read: James 4:7-8a
When we humble ourselves and seek the Lord it gives us strength to stand against the enemy. When we resist the devil, he will flee and when we draw near to God he draws near to us. That should be an encouraging promise to us. Ask the Lord to help us avoid the schemes of the enemy. Ask Him to draw near so we can experience His presence and guidance in every part of our life. Ask him to help our church leadership walk in step with His spirit to align our actions and decisions with His will for our church.

Day 25- April 30
Read: Mark 1:35
Mark records that Jesus took intentional steps to get away from noise and distractions so He could be alone with the Father. Be mindful of this example as you pray. We live in a world full of distractions, noise, and movement from one task to the next. Let’s take intentional steps today to slow down and create a space that is quiet, isolated, and free from distractions. As you talk to the Creator of the heavens and the earth today do it in a prepared place where you can be still and with a posture prepared to hear from Him.

Day 26- May 1
Read: Acts 2:46-47
All around us we can see a county that is ready for harvest. It is our earnest prayer that God would add to our number day by day those who are being saved. At the same time, we are asking Him to help us never to neglect our fellowship, service, and our care for one another. Every number represents a soul with real emotions, victories and challenges. We want a church that cares for the souls of our congregation, who breaks bread with one another and loves one another through every trial. As we prepare for the growth God is bringing, are we being faithful in the small things now? Ask God to reveal to you ways you can love, serve, or fellowship with another church member today.

Day 27- May 2
Read: Psalm 127:1-2
Solomon describes the strange paradox of Christian labor in two verses. We are completely dependent on the Lord for anything to be accomplished, but our labor is required. Any attempt to move apart from the blessing of God is vanity and anxious toil, but sitting back and hoping that God will keep us comfortable while He works around our disobedience is just as futile and vain. Pray that whatever task the Lord puts before us, he would find us having a mind to work (Nehemiah 4:6).

Day 28- May 3
Read: Colossians 2:13-15
As a child of God, you must remember that you fight from a position of victory. Not a moment passes by that our enemy is not scheming of ways to tempt us and to make us ineffective for Kingdom work. But the work of Christ on the cross on our behalf has disarmed the power of the enemy and triumphed over him. Our enemy is going to tempt, he is going to scheme, he is going to sow doubt, but the Spirit of the living God that takes up residence in the believer’s heart will carry you and give you strength to overcome if you ask. Pray and ask the Lord to guard your heart and your mind against spiritual attacks that aim to make you ineffective for the Lord. And ask Him to remind you of the position of victory from which you fight.

Day 29- May 4
Read: Proverbs 3:19-20
When making major decisions in this life whether it is in our personal lives or in the future of the local church, we must not forget the Source of our wisdom and discernment. The world leans on their own understanding, while the believer trusts that true biblically sound wisdom comes from God. In preparation for what God has in store for EBC, let us not forget the wisdom of the Lord is what founded the earth. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. There are no surprises for the Lord. He already has the answer before we ask the question. The question is: Are we walking close enough with the Lord to hear the answer? Ask the Lord for wisdom, he will give it freely to those who are walking blamelessly before him.

Day 30- May 5
Read: Hosea 10:12
Hosea, prophesying to Israel, claims that “it is time to seek the Lord.” Ebenezer, it is time to seek the Lord! Our community depends on our obedience and the Lord commands it! Meditate on the words found in Hosea 10:12 today, and ask the Lord to reveal to you any “fallow ground” in your life and heart. Today, we pray that the Lord would do a work in our hearts so that we may be wholly devoted to Him, and we expectantly wait for His righteousness and steadfast love to be clearly evident in our lives as we choose to be obedient to Him.

VISION- Days 31-40
Day 31- May 6
Read: Isaiah 30:21
If you are reading this prompt, there is a strong probability you have spent the last 30 days with us in prayer. Now, for these last 10 days, we as a church will specifically seek the Lord together for the details. Does He want us to buy, build, plant or wait? Ask Him to speak to the heart of your pastor, the staff/leaders and this church as to what He would specifically want us to do going forward. If we buy, build or plant this will require the work and sacrifice of the body, in service and support. If we wait and continue to seek Him, it will require patience and persistence to wait on the Lord while we continue to labor in the harvest fields. All decisions will require courage and faith. Ask the Lord for the specific word He has for us: buy, build, plant or wait?

Day 32- May 7
Read: Mark 4:38-39
I am not at all saying we are at a point of perishing! But the principle still stands, how often do we attempt to accomplish a task in our own strength when Jesus is waiting unbothered, accessible, and capable of solving a problem in a way we didn’t even know was possible. We frequently attempt to make decisions and act in our own strength when Christ is there, waiting for us to approach Him and seek help. Pray today that we, as a church, stop fighting the storm and simply seek Jesus. Pray that God makes the path forward clear to all. Pray that, if it be His will, we see Him bring answers to us in a way we could never have imagined.

Day 33- May 8
Read: Proverbs 3:5-6
This scripture calls us to several things: trust in the Lord with all your heart, don't lean on your own understanding and acknowledge Him in all your ways. Remember that God's path for the future of our church could very well be different than what we individually desire. His plans are perfect because He always desires what is best for us even if it is difficult or hard to understand. Ask the Lord to make His plan clear, that we could be united by the Holy Spirit and that we trust His plan fully. Ask Him to help us move forward without fear knowing that He is leading us beyond our own earthly understanding.

Day 34- May 9
Read: 1 John 5:14-15
Now that we have spent some time aligning our hearts with the will of God for ourselves and our church, ask the Lord for the “how”. Pray specifically and boldly for God to reveal the plan forward for our church believing that He hears us and He already has the answer in motion. Pray with confidence!

Day 35- May 10
Read: Psalm 32:8
As we continue to pray for God’s guidance we need to remember that He doesn’t just point us in a direction and go hands free. Instead, He walks with us as He provides it. He sees us, He hears us, He knows what we need, and He promises to guide us through every step. We want the detailed blueprint of His plan, but God desires for us to stay close and trust Him with the next step. God’s guidance comes as we intentionally slow down, listen, and stay near to Him through His Word and prayer. This is the singular intent of this 40 days of prayer devotion. Our desire is to not get ahead of God but instead seek the Lord, trust His plan, and seek His guidance.

Day 36- May 11
Read: Philippians 1:6 / James 1:5
God started a good work in the church of Ebenezer 209 years ago. Faithful brothers and sisters gave sacrificially, donated land, and came together united in their love for God and one another. Through their acts of faithfulness and generosity, God has richly blessed Henderson County. What a privilege it is to partner with Him and watch Him work through us to reach this county, our nation, and the world. While we are in this season of “what’s next?" we can stand firm in His word. He will complete the good work He has started in us! As we seek His will for the future, let’s align our hearts with His and ask for wisdom. Scripture promises He gives wisdom generously to all without reproach.

Day 37- May 12
Read: Colossians 4:12-13
Whether we buy, build, plant or wait, we know in time, EBC will need to identify a man/ministry to support as our new Eastern time zone church plant. Toward the conclusion of his letter to the Colossian church, Paul gives us a beautiful picture of the type of man we would want to support. Epaphras had been working diligently to establish churches in multiple cities, and in the above verses in chapter 4, in conjunction with Paul’s mention of Epaphras in Colossians 1:7, we see that Epaphras was 1) a faithful servant of Christ, 2) he worked hard, and 3) that he struggled in prayer on behalf of the people, that they grow in Christ and carry out God’s will for their lives. That is a picture of the man that we want to support. A planter who is first humbled before Christ as a servant. A faithful minister who works hard to build the church. Someone who is going to strive, fight, and agonize in his prayers on behalf of his people. So let’s pray today for the Lord to identify a church planter who resembles Epaphras, and may the Lord make it clear who this man is!

Day 38- May 13
Read: Isaiah 55:8-9
As we think about our vision here at EBC, let us be reminded God has a plan and is in complete and absolute control. There is nothing wrong with dreaming and praying for those dreams to come true. We must also understand that God’s word “shall not come back empty, but shall accomplish that which He purposes." His thoughts are greater than our thoughts….and His ways are higher than our ways, meaning His plan for our lives, the church, and this world is far better than we could ever imagine. God will always have what's in our best interest at heart. We can trust him. Has he failed us yet? Pray for God to help our unbelief. Pray for him to give us peace in the times of waiting and discernment to know His voice when it comes to pursuing His vision for Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Day 39- May 14
Read: 1 Peter 3:8
Peter reminds a church in the crisis of persecution how it ought to operate, whether in times of peace or great distress. He describes what must be true in the hearts and minds of believers. A detail that makes this verse interesting is that it is stated as a command. We cannot be driven by our circumstances to think or feel a certain way, but we must resolve to stand in unity with the Body of Christ, both in prosperity and tribulation. Pray that you would, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

Day 40- May 15
Read: 1 Corinthians 3:6-7
Oftentimes, during a season of “unknowns” or an extended period of waiting, we can begin to see doubt and discouragement if we are not careful. On the contrary, when things are going well, we can just as easily fall into a self-centered and boastful mentality of the work that the Lord has accomplished through the church. This passage in 1 Corinthians is a reminder that the Lord is truly the one responsible for providing growth. Not to say that we should not labor for the cause of Christ, but to say that we should rest in the truth that He is sovereign. This passage is also a reminder that the Lord can accomplish His work through us, or despite us. Ebenezer, as we walk through this season as a church, rest in these promises and begin to pray that the Lord would guard your hearts against discouragement and doubt, as well as arrogance and pridefulness as our church continues to see growth.

CLOSING- 40 Days of Prayer
Church, words cannot express how grateful and appreciative I am to know you’ve faithfully joined me, the staff and the leadership of EBC in this prayer journey for the last 40 days. It is my prayer that this journey has called you closer to the Lord and deepened your relationship with Him. We have sought the Lord together in a spirit of repentance, devotion, faithfulness and expectancy.
The obvious and fair question that many may be asking within would be: “So…what’s next?”
For the next 10 days, I want to encourage you to continue to seek the Lord in private prayer and devotion for His clear direction for EBC. Specifically ask the Lord for what He desires for His church and for hearts to be clear to receive His guidance and direction.
By God’s grace, you can expect a SPECIAL CALL TO PRAYER on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026. You received this prayer guide Easter Sunday, Resurrection Sunday, April 5. In observance of the Biblical timeline, as many of you know, 40 days after Jesus’ resurrection He ascends back to heaven (Acts 1:6-11). 10 days later, the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit fills the church and a mighty move of God was experienced that day (Acts 2:1-42)…and His work continues! Our staff and leaders are praying through the details now and look with great anticipation for what the Lord will have for us on this special day of prayer and worship. Until then, continue to pray for a move of God at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Looking forward to a great day together, Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026. I love you all.
